Some snow but firm in the morning. Reached the top around noon and spent an hour taking in the sights. On the downclimb, boot skied about 800 vertical feet down the large patches of snow. I'm going to bring my son and daughter next time.

Jim ("the Schillermon") Schiller left this world a sadder place on December 3, 2004. Eight of us were present to share our memories and scatter his ashes in a place he loved. We'll miss you brother, your spirit and music live on.

Recovery climb - ankle works ok, although hurts somewhat. Climbing steep snow was easier than scrambling on the rock on the ridge...

Very calm, clear day. Wildflower explosion down around Winnemucca Lake.

Climbed with Andre and Marta. Ideal snow conditions, no ice encountered in right hand chute. Exit onto west summit while steep was not too difficult. Winds raged on top, crawled across summit to gain west ridge descent. Very windy but otherwise a beautiful day in the mountains with good friends.

Me my girlfriend and our dog(Ginger) snowshoed up the North Face to the saddle between Round Top and the Sisters. I then threw on my crampons and grabed my ice axe and went the rest of the way to the Summit. It was a beautiful day, all sun and very little wind. The snow was very wind blown with sections of ice.

Nice climb for me and, my girlfriend, and our dog(Ginger). I was really shocked at how many people where in the Carson Pass area. I felt like I was in an amusement park. I will have to come back in the winter and try the Crescent Moon Couloir. Not so many people.

First mountaineering experience for my girlfriend. Great day with awesome views. But learned a lesson about forgetting to put on sunscreen....

Perfect snow conditions. Couldn't get up the final 6' of the left side variation because of loose snow so stuck to the right side at the top.

Started out as a hike to Round Top Lake from Woods Lake, but I convinced my 2 older friends to try the peak, couldn't get them to cross the notch to the true summit though! Great Climb.

First went up the West Ridge with Vendula. Came down and climbed up the couloir (this time the left variation) - I was sinking into snow up to my waist, snow blown into my face... pretty fun.

Since I love randonee skiing, snowshoeing and hiking, Round Top has been frequented by me in all seasons. This area has become my favorite recreation area since I live in South Lake Tahoe. It is highly used but covers such a large expanse that visitors spread out remarkably well. The knife-edge of the peak is thrilling to walk along.

Took the more adventurous members of a local youth group to the summit from Carson Pass. The absence of snow allowed for a quick climb on a nice afternoon. The bare north face looks quite slippery.......I mean, sporty.

Very nice climb. We didn't start until 1:30 PM (!) from Carson pass. It took us about 3 hrs. to get to the summit. At the base of the peak we met a guy whom we'd met before a year ago on the summit of Tallac - small world.

The snow in the couloir was good. I really liked this route. Exit is kind of steep and fun. We descended the west ridge and got back to the car at around 6:15 PM

Did a traverse from Carson Spur to Carson Pass, one of the finest spring outings I've had. Trip Report

First time up Round Top, amazing view, great place to spend Easter Sunday. Skied the couloir, very firm conditions at noon. Ash (Baldy's dog) went top to bottom in about 5 seconds... craziest sh*t I've ever seen! Show off...

Fun climb - no ice in the couloir, only hard packed snow so kicking steps was fairly easy. Traversed to the Sisters afterwards, down climbed the steep slope of the west sisters... great weather, no people, what more could I wish for?

DigglerRoute Climbed: Crescent Moon Couloir Date Climbed: 20 March, 2004

Fun get-together with some other SP members- some friends from before (Mark [aka Pellucid Wombat], Misha, & Etsuko) & got to know some cool new people- Sam (Mills), Tyson (scottfromcali), & Doug (mtnartman).

Leaving from the Bay Area (Sam from Cloverdale) the night before, Sam, Mark & I camped @ Carson Pass the night before. Met up with the others in the morning. I left the TH @ 7.51 (got a late start adjusting my crampons & snowboard attachment system), & lagged behind, my board bumping into my back leg each time I took a step. Got to Lake Winnemucca without incident.

Started up the couloir after Mark & Sam, who had a good pace from the get-go. Doug made his way up the N ridge to the L of our route. Snow conditions were excellent for climbing, & the route was great (think I even enjoyed it more than the Dana Couloir)! Soon we were @ the top, & headed over to the true summit. Summited ~11.20. After lounging a bit & taking in the beautiful Lake Tahoe-area surroundings, descended to the saddle between Round Top & the Sisters.

Convinced Mark to go up to the Sisters once more with me. Had a great view from up there, & went back to the saddle. Snowboarded down the mellower slopes (my first run of the season, + hard, wind-packed snow) to the lake- fun!! Ended up lagging behind Doug & Scott, who wisely opted to bring their snowshoes. After much postholing & corresponding cursing, reached Carson Pass, & a well-deserved beer, @ 15.15.

A nice dinner @ Kirkwood afterwards, & we left @ 17.45. A confusing drive in the dark, & I was back to Oakland by 21.00.

Fun trip, great route, with some cool people!

Convinced Rob to come up with me to try a new route up this impressive choss pile. If interested, check out the trip report. Phenomenal day!
