No big deal. Neither is bringing a dog, in my opinion. I have always found the dog rule to be a tad corny, especially for non-technical routes. Besides, if someone wants to attract a cougar, bringing a dog is the best way. It keeps the "wild" in wilderness. :-)
Dogs are legal there. Only some areas in ALW don't allow them, eg. Enchantments, Ingalls, Stu. Lk. etc...I've never really given a second thought to the issue of people liking or not liking dogs in places they're allowed. On the cougar issue - that's like avoiding scuba diving because there are sharks out there in the big ocean :-)
