The small but picturesque retreat is located on a cliff at the foothills of Retezat Mountains, just outside of
Suseni village. First mentioned in the late 15th century, the fortification was used by the noble
Kendeffy family as a hideaway place in the time of frequent Ottoman attacks in the area. It was finally abandoned in the late 17th century, since when it is slowly decaying, yet several of its walls are still standing high.
