Ruins of the Balvanyos Castle

Ruinele Cetăţii Balvanyos (RO), Bálványos Vár (HU) guards namesake spa resort. It used to be property of Apor family who refused to convert to Cristianity. Perimeter of the lower castle was almost a quarter of a kilometre with 2 m thick and 4 m tall fortification, while the upper castle was situated 30 m higher. A tower with cisterns below it used to be constructed at the northern end of the castle. In 1603 Apor family moved into more comfortable residence and since then the fortress has been turning into ruins.
