The first peak I climbed in California. It was a sweet dayhike.

Day 3 of my SoCal County Highpoint Tour. Tram was out of service for maintenance this week, so I took the Devils Slide route. Started at 4a, and had the summit to myself. Didn't see another soul until below Junction Saddle on the return. Back to car at 10a.

Afterwards I drove to San Diego Co. to climb Hot Springs Mtn (with a fire raging not 5 miles away), then on to Imperial Co. to climb Blue Angel Peak. I'm done now, thanks.

Beautiful views. We left the tram at 11:00 summitted around 2pm and stayed atop for about an hour. Great trail, and the views from atop to the desert floor are simply amazing.

We had a great trip. The older boys and more expierenced parents climbed up from Devils Slide (Humber Park). The younger scouts and new parents came up the Tram and we all met at round valley and spent the night togther. Sunday morning up and at it. Scott, Ryan , Clay , Grant ,Cameron , Russ , John , Will , Danny , Ansel , Priscilla , Shane , Shea , George , Seth , Travis and Gregg made the top. Mike , Bruce , Wesley , and Kyle waited at the saddle. It was a great trip except the lack of water. We carried it all! Mark and Kevin headed down early flu bug.

I started out on the trail from the aeral tram at 9:15 a.m. I reached the summit at about 2:00 p.m. It was a beautiful hike, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I did experience a bit of altitude sickness due to lack of sleep the night before. It is a beautiful trail, with spectacular views.

Got a late start, leaving the tram at about 2:50 PM with the expectation that there may be some headlamp time in the evening. Not being in the best shape and spending too much time talking to others on the trail, it took me until 6:00 to reach the summit. On the descent I did finally need the headlamp about 1/4 mile from the ranger station. It was a cold, windy, but beautiful and enjoyable day.

This was my second ascent up this route and conditions were a little hot but very clear. Made it to the summit in 4:28, then walked down to the tram and took it down.

Nice 10,400 ft vert / 35 mile workout. The trail was snow-free until about a mile below the tram, where it started to get pretty icy. It remained icy until about a mile above the tram. The rest of the hike to the summit was on well-packed snow. I wore running shoes, shorts and a t-shirt the whole way, except I put on a light jacket near the top. I didn't bring any money with me so I wouldn't be tempted to take the tram down. (NOTE - 2/21/02: I just read the guilty's comment below that the tram ride down is FREE. I didn't realize this when I was up there, but it's good to know!) Times: 5:27 up, 4:44 down.

Many thanks to mdostby for his great San Jacinto page!

Hiked to the summit many times throughout the years. Great views from the top! Someday I would like to attempt the Snow Creek Route.
