Sapovnelo Pass, North Nuamkuan Glacier Plateau

Also called Nuam-Kuam Glacier. A dawn view from our plateau bivvy, August 1987. There are no easy ways to cross the Main Crest of the Caucasus East of the mighty Shkhara, even though the ridgeline is a few hundred meters lower than to its West ("Only" 4050 m at this saddle)

Thanks, gotta say that your red rock pictures look a lot more intimidating to me than this white stuff :)

I got a few shots of action up there, will try to dig them up. You know, with my ankle still recovering, I am not up to much stuff in the mountains yet ... so it's just the right time to rummage through the old slides :)
