Winter  Sucess!

Wind + Snow makes this route an interesting long day hike/climb. Be prepared for some post-holing along the ridge and across to Evans.

Evans to Bierstadt  Sucess!

The trick when I did this ages ago was finding the start from the Evans side.

Crowded  Sucess!

much ado about nothing. catwalk was a bit of a puckerfest, but I thought the actual climbign was pretty mild. Very cool place tho...

Fun Ridge Run  Sucess!

Nice little scramble. Very enjoyable and recommended route for picking up these two peaks. The exposure really is not great and none of the scrambling was difficult.

Toothy  Sucess!

Channeled Dave Cooper and stayed right on the ridge crest until the crossover to the N side...very fun scramble!

Return to Sawtooth  Sucess!

(Bierstadt to Evans) Climbed this about 20 years ago and spent MANY miserable hours in the willows on the return from Evans. Was very happy to find that there is now a very discernible trail through those willows. It's still not a good trail; sank into mud up to my ankles, but MUCH better than bushwhacking. Was very sad to learn a fellow climber lost his life a few days after my climb while returning back over the Sawtooth. Even though a dry Sawtooth is a pretty simple class 2 climb, with a couple class 3 moves, the easy way back from Evans is down the gully and through the willows.

Fun outting  Sucess!

Beautiful day in the mountains. Did the Sawtooth Ridge in both directions. Was a very fun climb. Took rope but absolutely no need for a rope on this route. Class III, fun scramble

New word: Gendarme  Sucess!

Can't think of a better way to expand my vocabulary than experiencing the word! Great hike on the Sawtooth Ridge today with EricD from Bierstadt to Evans. Class 3 is not so bad if you don't look down, but then where's the fun? Snow and ice were limited to shady areas under rocks, avoidable. Wind wasn't too bad and the rain clouds looked worse than they were. Great day for scrambling!

East ridge of Bierstadt to Sawtooth to Evans  Sucess!

Awesome day for climbing, did the Tour De Abyss. Sadly witnessed a tragic accident on the Sawtooth that day on this route. Everyone be careful out there.

Coolest Goat Encounter  Sucess!

Crossing the Sawtooth we had to circumnavigate between goats to get to the Evans side. Had avoided this ridge twice before because it looked fatiguing and possibly hairy from the summit of Bierstadt. Now I cannot imagine hiking Bierstadt without crossing the Sawtooth as well.

Fun hike  Sucess!

A nice easy 2nd class route with one 30' 3rd class section. I enjoyed doing a loop from the switchback at 13,300' on the Mt Evans road, up Bierstadt, and then over on the Saw.

Classic route!  Sucess!

Did the Sawtooth form Bierstadt to Evans with two other people from 14ers.com. Very fun route but I hated the downclimb on the loose face of Bierstadt. The Sawtooth ridge itself is a great class III route and the exposure not all that bad.

Bierstadt-Sawtooth-Evans  Sucess!

The ridge was still mixed, with lots of snow on the East slopes. A fun route (except, perhaps, for the final bit of route-finding through willowy marshland).

Only did Bierstadt to do this  Sucess!

Fun scramble, perfect weather. Saw many people give up when they were so close to the end. To all prospective Sawtooth scramblers: that slope at the end is *not* as hard as it looks! DO NOT turn back!

Bierstadt to Evans via Sawtooth  Sucess!

Climbed Bierstadt via East Ridge and traversed to Evans via Sawtooth. Nice solid rock if you trying to stay on the ridge. Fun scrambling, nice weather, great view!

Sawtooth Rocks  Sucess!

Sawtooth route was definitely awesome. Highlight of the day by far. Evans is anticlimactic when you get to the top and have Van-Loads of kids and an entire Menonite Congregation searching for the highest point on the summit. If you don't care about named summits and the weather is nice, take your break on top of the West Summit, which is a couple hundred meters to the West and only 2 feet shorter (will gladly lug a 3 ft boulder to the top of it with some people for a nice shenanigan). You will have solitude and a more fun scramble to the top.

Resign yourself to a crappy route through the willows on the way back to Guanella Pass. All around good day though.
