Scarlet Begonias ?

Scarlet Begonias ?

"Well, I ain't often right but I've never been wrong, It seldom turns out the way it does in the song. Once in a while, you get shown the light; In the strangest of places if you look at it right ..." You dig Scarlet Begonias? Bummer .. that's not what we're looking at here. I know - what a long, strange trip its been ... This is Indian paintbrush blooming in yonder hills near Dugas, Arizona. The flowers of Indian paintbrush are edible and sweet, and were consumed in moderation by various American Indian tribes as a condiment with other fresh greens. These plants have a tendency to absorb and concentrate Selenium in their tissues from the soils in which they grow, and can be potentially very toxic if the roots or green parts of the plant are consumed. Nevada Indian Tribes used the plant to treat venereal diseases and to enhance the immune system. Various other tribes used the plant as its name suggests -- a paintbrush! WHAT? Did I use this plant as a paintbrush to saturate some of my images on Summitpost ??? Absolutely no! April 17, 2010
