Thanks. I have no comment on comparing the MP beta to that which now appears on SP--especially the TR posted yesterday that is getting summarily panned despite the fact that it's hardly the archetypal offering on the matter.
In the first Transformers movie, the special forces guys are running through the desert in Qatar, trying to escape the evil transformer thing that is hunting them. I noticed the other day that the Shiprock was featured prominently in the background during this scene.
There are some bits on the history of climbing Ship Rock, including information on the 1970 incident, here: http://lamountaineers.org/History/Topic_6.html
Ship Rock figures prominently in Tony Hillerman's mystery 'The Fallen Man'. If you have not read Hillerman's Edgar-award winning mysteries, featuring Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee of the Navajo Tribal Police, you are missing some of the finest books about the Southwest on the planet. 'Fallen Man' is one of his best, in my opinion. Read them in order as his last 2 books or so were not up to his usual quality, written just before his death.

Hey, this is in Qatar!Did anyone notice Shiprock prominently visible in the background while the soldiers were in Qatar?
Edit: This was in the movie "Transformers".
