Don's Last Stand

I had the privilige to climb the Rizieri route with the late and great Don Whillans in July 1985 just before his untimely death the following month. Don lead the climb and we had minimum equipment. Although it was a long time ago, I recollect that the final 10/12 feet were the most difficult as you had to launch yourself from a sloping stance up over a bulge to the finish. Don was overweight and out of condition but still managed to climb very well and with his well known skill and agility.
