This is the couloir on the High Traverse Route to Snow Moon Basin which needs to be negotiated with caution if it holds any lingering snow. Our group opted to carefully down climb about 50 feet to the bottom of the snow patch, where there was enough exposed rock for an easy scramble back up to the game trail.
The south face of Mount Henkel rises behind Many Glacier Hotel and Swiftcurrent Lake. To the left, rising behind the Ptarmigan/Iceberg Wall are two prominent snow-covered peaks. On the right is Old Sun Glacier draped over the east face of Mount Merritt, sixth tallest peak in all of Glacier Park. On the left is Ipasha Peak and Ahern Glacier. The seemingly impenetrable Lithoid Cusp sits between the two lofty mountains.
