Route Description

From the Corral Creek directions on the main page, follow the Pioneer Cabin Loop Trail east from the parking lot at the end of the dirt road.

Follow this steady and somewhat steep trail 3.5 miles to the breathtaking Pioneer Cabin across from the Pioneer Mountains. Turn north and travel cross country until you agree with a good spot to contour into the cirque below. Be sure to contour sooner than later as the the terrain becomes quite rugged very fast.

Continue up the cirque until reaching the 9,800' contour line. Turn north and scramble up 1,800' of solid class II terrain on broken talus and boulder fields.

Essential Gear

There is some water along the route but not much. Pioneer Cabin is notorious for its horse flies so light Capilene or heavy duty bug spra is recommended. I

If attemping in spring, crampons and an ice axe are a MUST.

Parents

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
