Approach

Take Emigrant Canyon/Wildrose Road 13.5 miles south to the Skidoo Road. Skidoo Road is currently an 8-9 mile well graded dirt road passable to two wheel drive cars. Drive to the end of the road or close to the end of the road.

Route Description

Just start heading north towards Tucki Mountain. Watch where you came from as it would not be hard to get lost in the rises and falls of the desert hills. All of the route if off trail, but cairns and use trails are gained and lost along the way.

Keep going north, mainly descending, until arriving at the Tucki Mine road. Cross the road and head back up the slopes, which look like badlands from afar but are very much alive, sprinkled with stands of barrel cactus. The slopes to the right/northeast appear to be the most gentle and passable. Endless ups and downs eventually lead to Tucki's gentle, rounded summit.

According to Andy Zdon's Desert Summits book, it is 14 miles round trip with more than 4,000 feet of elevation gain. This seems reasonable, based on my experience.

Essential Gear

Lots of water and sturdy shoes.
