Departing the parking area, Curtis begins the hike that will culminate in reaching the summit of High Dune (off the image on the left), Great Sand Dunes National Park, CO. Just ahead is where Medano Creek should be flowing, but it had dried up by the time this image was taken in August 2006. In the background is Mount Herard.
