Re: Peak in distanceNo, it is Lovenia (13219). If you look really hard you can also see the very tip of Wasatch (13156), 1.85 miles S of Tokewanna, just above the horizon to the right of Lovenia. Beulah is the next thing sticking up on the left of Lovenia. Here's another picture of the same area, closer up, taken from the summit of Swasey Knob, in which you can clearly see Lovenia, Wasatch, and East Lovenia.

Re: Peak in distanceSorry it's been so long since I was at Summitpost... thanks so much for the info. It's a fine shot, and makes me soo want to be in the Uintas! Thanks again.

I'm wondering ifSwasey Knob and Swasey Peak (in the west utah desert) are named after the name person ??

Re: I'm wondering ifI wondered that too, but unfortunately can't answer this question either. As far as I know, there is no official name for Swasey Knob (12124). Scott just called it this since Swasey Hole to the SE was the nearest named geographical feature.

Re: I'm wondering ifScott just called it this since Swasey Hole to the SE was the nearest named geographical feature.
Yes, and if interested I used the name "Knob" because there already was a Swasey Peak (which some call Mt. Swasey) and Swasey Mountain in Utah. I thought "Knob" might avoid confusion between the different places.
Anyway, it is possible that this is named for the same Swasey's in the House Range. I know the Swasey's of the San Rafael Swell did get into the Uinta Basin.
Although I don't know of any official source, I'm pretty sure that the same Swasey's in the Swell are connected with the House Range somehow. There are too many similar place names between the two regions. For example, Sinbad Country in the Swell vs. Sinbad Canyon and Sinbad Spring in the House Range. Swasey's Leap and Swasey's Cabin in the San Rafael vs. Swasey Peak and Swasey Mountain in the House Range. Having features adjacent to each other having both such uncommon names as Sinbad and Swasey must be connected.
Both areas either have or are adjacent to places known as Robbers Roost, but that name is a pretty common one.
If the Swasey's connected to the Uintas (which is certainly possible, if not probable) are connected to the San Rafael Swell, then almost certainly they are connected to the House Range as well.

Re: I'm wondering ifThanks Scott! I find stuff like this interesting. Now, if you could just tell me how Oke Doke Lake got named, my life would be complete.

Re: I'm wondering ifI have no idea how Oke Doke Lake was named. I've always wanted to hear the story behind Lightning Killed Bug Spring (West of Whiterocks Creek and NW of Elkhorn Guard Station) in the Uinta Mountains!

BeulahI've only seen a couple of pics of Beulah, but the peak looks awesome! Is there a class 2 route up it, or is the climbing harder than that?

Re: BeulahBeulah was a peak that I thought was beyond me when I saw how rugged it looked on the map. I didn't even have to see it in person. There is no class 2 route to it, but 2 friends and I used this class 3 route to get there.
