Tarantula

Tarantula

Gorgeous big tarantula (Aphonopelma chalcodes) seen on the Mount Wilson Trail in the Little Santa Anita Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains. It crossed our path and quickly sought shelter underneath some smaller rocks. If you enlarge the picture you can see its eyes. August 23, 2008

Fine specimen ...

If this tarantula crossed paths with a Horned
lizard, I wonder who would come out of it
smelling like a rose. Great capture, Guido!!!

Re: Fine specimen ...

Thanks Larry. It was actually the first time I saw one here in the San Gabriels. And what an impressive one that was. Cheers.

Re: Uugh!

Well, I always thought I would be scared if I saw one. But then when I finally did I was absolutely amazed by this creature. I wanted to get even closer but it disappeared too quickly. Thanks.
