Temple SW Ridge Scramble Route and crux

Mount Temple SW ridge Scramble and crux discussion - hike/scramble route from Larch Valley. Route marked-the usual scramble route through the gray rockband(30 -40 ft high) is the right hand of two dirty/wet gullies which can be icy and subject to rock fall- worse if lots of people. The left hand gully is loose class 5(not recommended)and the preferred right hand one is class 4. There are two better scramble bypasses(easy fifth class)to the right of the gully in the gray band. They can save time and avoid rockfall danger because of the crowds and lineups. As you come up the wet rubbly easy black ledges to the base of the RH gully in the gray rock band, look about 40 to 50 feet further to the right for an easy RH corner about 15-20 feet high- in 2 steps(easy 5th class) that goes to the top of the gray band. If you scramble up it you miss the wet muddy grungy gully, the crowds and the rockfall. There is a path and cairn so you can find it on the way down. See recent photo Grey Band Bypass - see right side two people coming down 2nd step
