The 3rd Icefall of the Whitney Glacier

The 3rd Icefall of the Whitney Glacier

March 27, 2010 - The dirty icefall that flanks the left side of the Whitney Glacier, seen from the base of the third icefall. This section has high rockfall danger and has so much cruddy rock on the surface that we avoided it. There are better ice falls to be had away from the Bolam-Whitney Ridge! The layers in the ice are indicative of the summer accumulation of debris that was then subsequently buried by the next winter snowfall. Photo by Tom Bennett
