It was purely a time issue. We had only three days to pull it off, so the train seemed like the best bet. Vallecito would have been too long to do in one day.
Mark,that Silverton-Durango narrow gauge RR is famous even as far away as Australia. Nice to think you can take the old train to the trailhead. Bit of a bummer about the poor attitude to hikers though. Good TR.
