The karst mountains near...

The karst mountains near Yangshuo are often shrouded in mist, an inspiration to Chinese artists for centuries.

Re: Some inspiration

Thanks Aleksandar. I was glad for the clouds and rain, as it was more evocative of those works of art we had often seen. Some people we were with might have preferred bright sun, but I was happy to see it like this.

Re: Some inspiration

I agree. I liked it much more when there was fog around. It added the mystique you've seen so many times on the paintings.

Re: Some inspiration

Corax, I checked out your amazing website for some photos of this region but did not find any. Well, that's OK, I always get pulled in to your site and wind up someplace else. You have done some amazing travels, though getting gassed in Pakistan and run over by a bus in India would not be high on my list! Good luck on your next adventure. By the way, we spent several days bicycling in this area, including biking back to Guilin from Yangshuo (in a misty rain). That was a good time.

Re: Some inspiration

Thanks!

All the content on my website is from journeys done by bicycle. I travelled in the areas around Guilin and Yangshou as "normal" traveller and therefore there are no photos to be found on the site. I hope I can find time one day to make a mountaineering site and possibly also a site with photos from non-biking trips.

I like...

.. how you can move your gaze from foreground to background: each one frames the other and both give a great sense of depth and remoteness.

Re: I like...

Thanks brenta. As you can see the lighting was flat and diffused, typically not the best for a landscape scene, so composition was critical. We were on a moving boat when I saw the alignment ready to happen, and managed to fire off a couple of shots. Of course the dramatic nature of the scene compensated for the flat lighting.

I wonder if contrast masking would have helped the image! :-}
