Larry LavertyEast Ridge  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Apr 2, 2013

Larry Laverty

Looked over from Round Top and picked my little route up the mixed snow and rock. The view back toward Round top from the East Sister added to my appreciation of how impressive Round Top is.
No signs in the snow on top of any recent visitors. This little neck of the woods around Carson Pass is a stand out in the Sierras to me.

Stormy day but we made it to the top of the higher peak. Great view looking back at Round Top. Climbed with a team of nine from Sierra Mountaineering Group.

Climbed the higher East Sister on snowshoes with Sierra Mountaineering Group. Fun little peak made more interesting with lots of fresh snow and some great stormy scenery.

This is a rare place where you can easily (somewhat) bag three 10,000 ft peaks in a day. The weather was perfect all day--in the low 70's and not many clouds. I started with Round Top and then moved over to the Sisters. Be careful of lots of loose rock and scree. I was by myself which isn't too smart to begin with, but I couldn't find anyone that was ready for an ambitious day of climbing. So I wore a helmet for additional safety and there was a ton of people climbing Round Top, so I felt relatively safe by myself. I left the trailhead at Woods Lake at 10:00 a.m and reached Round Top Lake at 11:05. Made it up to Round Top and the first Sister by 1:15. After the second Sister I retraced my steps back to the East Sister and returned on the Woods Lake Loop at about 4:20. It was a good day all around.

The weather was very iffy with lots of heavy thunderheads floating around. Got lotsa good photos coming and going from Carson Pass with the flowers and the clouds.

Got to the ridge via wind-loaded northern gully. Pretty steep, probably near 60 degrees at the top.

Easy bonus peaks after a nice climb of Crescent Moon Couloir on Round Top. The views looking back to Round Top are fantastic in winter.

With Crescent Moon Couloir under my belt in quick time, I had enough energy to go tag The Sisters. Did the east ridge over east Sister then on to the actual summit. I found this ascent to be more exposed and nearly as steep as CMC. Easy bag but I took the dirty trail descent on the backside; the ascent was a bit too steep and slushy to crampon back down.
Traversed to base of Round Top then boot glissaded down to lake. BOY was it hot! Didn't see a soul all day. :)

Just out for some exercise .. snowshoed up to Round Top / Sisters saddle from Carson Pass. Scrambled up east Sister first, then looked over and decided to do the west Sister too.

Beautiful day, warm and not much wind .. looked like the skiers & boarders were having a blast.

Also did the east Sister in April 2005 after doing the Crescent Moon Couloir on Round Top.

With all the times I've been in the area and up Round Top I had never tagged the Sisters. So I headed up the slope from Winemucca Lake and tagged the East summit from the saddle before heading over and getting Round Top for the umpteenth time.

(June 2008) Left from Woods Lake TH. Gained the west ridge from Round Top Lake. Stayed very near to the ridgeline the entire way. Many fun class 3 spots. Climbed Round Top afterwards.

(May 2010) Black Butte, The Sisters, Round Top, and Elephants Back from Carson Pass.

Quick hike up the East Ridge after summiting Round Top. Couldn't quite convince myself to tag both summits, but enjoyed the view.

Great wildflowers displays on the trail from Carson Pass. Once I hit the saddle between Sisters and Round Top, I headup up the West and down and up the east Sister. Nice views from both.

Climbed up the saddle between the sisters from Round Top Lake. Bagged the west one, then traversed eastward over the east Sister then Round Top. Fantastic hike if you can handle the weekend afternoon crowds on the descent.

Tagged both Sisters from Round Top Lake. Hiked the west trail from Woods Lake, then climbed to the saddle between the Sisters, up the West Sister, traverse to the East Sister, finished the loop on the east trail of Woods Lake. This finished a great Friday that include a summit of Hawkins Peak.

That long traverse with Matthew (described below) was really great fun. The Thimble was the most thrilling of the summit blocks, harder than Round Top even. Trip Report

Apr 4, 2004: Traversed the ridge as part of a fantastic springtime traverse from Carson Spur to Carson Pass: Martin Pt, Thunder Mtn, Thimble Peak, Covered Wagon Peak, Melissa Coray Peak, Fourth of July Peak, The Sisters, Round Top, and Elephants Back. There's some nice class 3 on the west ridge leading up to the lower summit, one of the more enjoyable bits of a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Nov 2, 2002: Loop around Round Top, The Sisters, and Fourth of July Peak from Woods Lake. Pleasant day.
