The Spirit of Greater Yellowstone

The Spirit of Greater Yellowstone

Almost everyone visiting Greater Yellowstone hopes to see a grizzly bear. Most aren't so lucky. On this day, we saw three siblings together near and in the Buffalo Fork of the Snake River. They were 2 or 3 years old, with the very blonde one clearly the leader of the group. What an unforgettable experience... Wyoming, August 2013

Nice shot!

Great view Bob. Did you have a telephoto lens or something? How far away were these and how long could you watch them?

Would be good to have a basket of berries and maybe give them a treat! ;-)

Re: Nice shot!

Thanks! I had a 400 mm telephoto for these bears and got several good shots. At times they were closer than the recommended minimum of 100 yds, but I never felt that I was too close or that there was danger, but I made sure to keep a safe distance nonetheless.

I was tempted to use one of my kids as bait for some great action photos...
