I imagine the cross marks a peak, and the stick is a radio antenna.

Re: Amazing photo...Oh sorry, I didn't answer your questions. Yes, the cross marks the summit of Geiereck, the very "cornerstone" at the north-east end of the Untersberg's crest, and it is a radio antenna on the right (there is a local radio channel here in Salzburg called "Radio Untersberg").

Re: Amazing photo...Not to worry; I've had my share of disappointments too. I've posted pix that I was so proud of and they fell flat on their face. Then I posted a photo of a tree and got POTD.
