The summit of Window Peak...

The summit of Window Peak...

The summit of Window Peak (looking south towards Tucson) and its charming summit register. I suspect that the spire on the right of the photo is slightly higher but couldnt find anything less than a class 5 route up it. Mt Wrightson on the horizon at right.

Yep!

Did you check that spire out? I got a bit of the way and ran into a huge block that moved when I tested it. Time to come back with gear I suppose....

Re: Yep!

that sounds pretty harrowing - i did test around it a bit when searching for the highest spire, but never got up very high. do you think that my appraisal of the chimney to the proper summit being class 3 is appropriate?

Re: Yep!

Yeah, I think class 3 sounds right... I remember that silly tree, too!

Only thing that bothered me was that I think you're right and the other spire is higher. I was thinking of going back with a rack, maybe in the spring....

Re: Yep!

A few notes:

1. There has been an anti-cairn and anti-summit register zealot in the Tucson area removing both of these said items. As such, there is no summit market/register of any kind on this peak.

2. Here is a take on which summit is higher:

http://blog.summithut.com/post/2010/05/06/Window-Rock-and-Window-Peak.aspx

The verdict is that the traditional, 3rd class summit is, indeed, the highpoint. Thoughts?
