The summit tips and the...

The summit tips and the Southeast face of Kangchenjunga are lit up in the fiery orange of the morning sun as seen from Dzongri Top (4210m, 13800ft) on the way to Goechala pass, Sikkim, India. The four highest summits of the mountain, all above 8400m can be seen in image. Starting from left to right they are - West Summit (Yalung Kang, the round one), Main Summit, Central Summit and the South Summit. The border between India and Nepal follows the South Ridge to the South Summit, through the Central and the Main Summits and back to the North Ridge. So the sunlit portion of the peak is in India and the other side is in Nepal. A prominent cliff on the Southwest Face - The Sickle - can also be seen just below the connecting ridge between the West and Main Summits. The ridge in the foreground goes on to Kabru Dome.

Photograph taken on the morning of 9th October, 2005 from Dzongri Top, Sikkim, India.

New signature photo

Great shot (and caption as noted). I have made this the new sig photo on the Kanch page, replacing the Lear painting I had there for a long time. Thanks for posting.

Re: New signature photo

Thanks a lot, Nelson. I really love this mountain and am terribly in awe of it. Watching the sunrise on the peak is really one of the most satisfying things you could ever see in your life. I was lucky to get a shot of it as it was raining with clouds overhead on the previous two days.

Superb

Excellent photography.

The picture reminds me of some of the shots that Vittoria Sella took when he visited Kanchenjunga in 1899. Except for the presence of colours on yours of course.

Re: Superb

Thanks for all the comments, guys. Really appreciate it. It's a real honour for me that this photo reminds you of the great Vittorio Sella.
