Third Eye Open ...

"We have always lived in these wind-flapped tents. There is an oasis out there--we hunt reptiles and amphibians that lumber down to drink. Sometimes there are sandstorms that last three days. Then we tell each other the long stories of our ancestors. We rarely think about the blowing sand. Of course, it is like this--always will be." Castellated and rugged, the south face of Secret Mountain forms the backdrop for several canyons leading into the 47,194-acre Red Rock/Secret Mountain wilderness in central Arizona. Some hikers speak of mysterious occurrences in these deep canyons. The Boynton Canyon trail and Deadman's Pass trail have a long history of encounters with invisible beings walking alongside hikers. Footsteps are clearly heard, but hikers are unable to see anyone and report that the dirt, rocks, and plants on the footpath were NOT disturbed by whatever passed them by. Of course, this could all be hot air in the wind, but some swear that it actually happened. January 27, 2011
