Approach

Thumb Peak is approx. 5km soouth of Yangshuo easily accessible from the road. Either take a mini-van from the bus station or ride a bike. You cross through a farmer's field and small creek on your way to the base of the climb.

Route Description

[img:99313:alignleft:small:]The main route, Happy New Year, is 5 pitches long and follows a set of overhanging roof problems up the east face. You can traverse to the left at the forth belay station and also climb the alternate route, Paparazzi Pete which requires traditional protection.

Both routes have bolted belays and are graded 5.9 / 5.10.

Essential Gear

Quick draws are probably all that is needed for the sport routes which are well bolted. Traditional protection is necessary on trad routes.
