To Be a Bee

A busy Honey Bee on an Indian Blanket Flower near the South Loop trailhead. Note the pollen on her hind leg. The honey bee has hair on each of its hind legs which helps collect the pollen. As she walks around the bloom, pollen balls up on her leg. Sadly, the number of bees in Mount Charleston, Nevada has been decreasing during the last few years. Taken in the summer of 2007.

Thank you Afzal. The bees in Mount Charleston are very nice. For the last 7 years of hiking there I only got stung once and I always "bug" them with my camera;)

I've heard about

the decreasing bee populations. The same
rings true in central Arizona.
