Close to Christchurch, this was the first park on my trip to New Zealand. As I arrived, it was very wet, so I changed plans at first, but two days later I was back for a total of six days of glorious tramping, as the Kiwi´s call hiking. It's a beautiful place!

The first day was a day hike to Avalanche Peak. Much shorter than the route description might make you think - it says 6-8 hours, but I think 4-6 is more appropriate. But that doesn't take away anything of the spectactular scenery.

The next day I went out with the big pack, for a five day tramp. One of these days I didn't see a soul - not counting the cows, that is.

I'm thinking about writing a TR about it, but for now, here are the pictures.
