snakes?

I've never seen a snake on Olympus. Were they rattlers?

Pretty damned good "deed", Joe.

Re: snakes?

Matt - I see snakes up there very infrequently considering how often I go. One of these two was a rattler, the other was not. I was running and they were both in a hurry to get off the trail.

Total dedication

Congrats on a singular accomplishment worthy of praise and admiration. For me the only downside of this feat is how little and insignificant it makes my puny attempts appear. On the other hand, it is an inspiration and conjures up images in my head of someday attempting an Olympus double. So "vielen Dank!"

Nice!

You know you're going to try for 6 next year, once you recover you'll come around.

Re: Nice!

When I got to the car at the conclusion of lap #5 I contemplated how I would feel if I had to do another lap. Although I could have done it, this has got to end somewhere, otherwise I'll be going for 30 laps when I turn 70.

Congrats

Nice job Joseph, your decent times are what impresses me the most, consistent and strong. There's a race that's almost full called the Speedgoat 50k, 31 miles 11,000 ft of vert. It'd be interesting to see how you'd finish amongst runners, definetly in the top 30 would be my prediction. Or time for you to do a 100 miler. See you on the trails.

Re: Congrats

Thanks Steve. I've thought about trying the Wasatch 100, but I'm getting kind of old for that stuff.

Re: Fantastic.

Thanks for the great vote. And yes, I was just doing it because it's there. Plus the excuse to eat unlimited ice cream the next day.

WTG!

When I happened to wake up that morning at 3, my first thought was "Oh boy, I get to sleep for another hour and 20 min." My second thought was to calculate about where you'd be on the trail. My third thought was "I'm glad that's not me." I can at least imagine doing 3, but doing 4 and 5 is hard to comprehend. Truly an admirable feat. WTG!

Re: WTG!

You were fast as hell. You'll get your triple and be home in time for a late lunch.

What the $@#&*?*((%^

You know, I've been keeping an eye on your exploits the past 6 yrs since I've been on SP. You've done some amazing stuff. But, I'll have to agree with the one dude. You're either sloshed or you should be. I ran 4 marathons last year, and I'd do that in a heartbeat before climbing Olympus 5 times in a day! You got will power thats for sure!

Re: What the $@#&*?*((%^

Thanks for the vote. Funny thing, I ran my first road marathon this year, and in all liklihood will never do it again. I guess it was because of the relentless pounding, my legs were much more sore after the marathon.

Re: What the $@#&*?*((%^

You're right. You take a pounding during a marathon. But, that Olympus hike is no cake walk either! I was one sore puppy after I climbed that one. Again, I'm impressed.

Take a boulder and we'll call you Sisyphus. Congrats on your feat. That is awesome amount of elevation gain.

Were those snakes, or shrieking eels?

20,000 feet of gain in one day! INCONCEIVABLE!

Very Impressed

Olympus is on my list when I visit my son this summer. However, I think I'll go a little slower to enjoy the view so I only need to go up once!!

Congrats!!!
