Un-named Peaks, Alaska

Spent 5 days climbing surrounding peaks from the base camp of Mt Flower (near Haines, Alaska). For 5 days the skies dumped rain and snow on us...but for a brief time, the clouds parted to reveal this gorgeous view. What a fantastic place! (Despite the bad mannered marmots stealing all our Oriole cookies.)

Oriole cookies ...

I enjoy the Golden ones with low fat milk.

Seriously, Alaska is a land of contrasts.
Can't wait to visit my friend in Nome, Alaska,
(hopefully) next summer.

There's nothing like ripe tundra berries ..

Yes, and bears like the berries too, so look out! As a matter of fact, we saw a bear but he was far away and running in the other direction, the only way you want to see a bear.

Re: Oriole cookies ...

"On the bank of the river
Stood Running Bear,
Young Indian brave ..
On the other side of the river
Stood his lovely Indian maid.

Little White Dove was her name,
Such a lovely sight to see;
But their tribes fought with each other,
So their love could never be.

Running Bear dove in the water,
Little White Dove did the same ..
And they swam out to each other,
Through the swirling stream they came.

As their hands touched and their lips met,
The raging river pulled them down ..
Now they'll always be together,
In their happy hunting ground ..."

Re: Oriole cookies ...

My bad and I'm sorry, must have over-reacted ..

How 'bout this ...?

"Once there were these two backpackers who see a bear begin to charge them, so one backpacker takes off his hiking boots and puts on running shoes.

His companion says, “you’ll never outrun the bear, why are you putting those on?”

The guy with the running shoes replies, “I don’t have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you."
