view north from Cataract Mountain

This broad valley is one of several that confluence at Swiftcurrent Lake at the heart of the Many Glacier region of Glacier National Park. Azure Grinnell Lake dots the forested valley floor, with the smallish hump of Angel wing rising above and to the left. The broad, snowy east face of Mount Grinnell towers high above. Just behind and to the right, the impressive summit of Mount Wilbur is visible. The remarkable snow field just right of Wilbur's summit is Old Sun Glacier, perched high atop lofty Mount Merritt. Crowfeet Mountain's prominent summit marks the center of the photo. Following the barren ridge to the right leads first to Mount Henkel, then to the red hump of Apikuni Mountain. Between Henkel and Apikuni, Mount Gable's sharp dual summits rise in the far distance. A marvelous summit scene! June 30, 2010
