31-July-2005: What looks like...

31-July-2005: What looks like a sizable crevasse in the glacier below the north face of the peak, above Grizzly Lake. I had no idea that this was a real glacier until I read this note. The photo's resolution is not enough to show the footsteps that led up to and into the crevasse (no footsteps led out).

Glacier

In the month or so since you have visited the area the crevasses have now opened up much more. In fact, they are deeper and larger than the one in the photo.

Re: Glacier

Neat ! I'd be curious to see any pics you may have taken of them.

Re: Glacier

May be of interest. I just posted a picture of the same glacier taken in Sept. 2007. Shrunk. Ken H

Re: Glacier

I took a look at your picture and was pretty amazed. On the other hand, 2005 was a much bigger snow year than 2007, so it's not hard to imagine that a lot of the snow cover would have burned off, especially later in the season.

Re: nice

Thanks !

The link to the note was made before the Thompson Peak page was revised. After Dennis took over the page, the note was incorporated into the mountain's description - see the text beginning with Per SP member Ed Cooper ....
