Approach

Drive up into the Tumbling Creek WMA. At the office take a left and follow the road to the gate labeled "MUCK".

Route Description

From the WMA park at the MUCK gate. Proceed up the jeep road paralleling Dry Creek and after a few hundred yards take a right onto a jeep road. Contour over to Red Creek and up to Mutters Gap. At the gap take a left and proceed south on ridgeline to summit (no trail). This is a long trip (10+ miles RT). This is a VERY difficult hike. (The topozone link is on the jeep road between the MUCK gate(almost) and Mutters Gap.)

Essential Gear

map (USGS Saltville and Elk Garden Va quads), compass/gps, food and water, excellent cross country skills, a strong will.
