Lost Peak as seen from the summit of Blackcap Mountain to the west on August 20, 2001. The pyramid just to the left of the high point is the 8,327-ft NE Summit. Appearing to come out of the summit as if steam from a volcano is smoke from a forest fire on Hickey Hump 27 miles to the east. Unexpectedly, I would hike through the burn of this fire the next summer (2002) on my way to climbing Windy Peak--another Washington Big Boy and the farthest east of them all.
