Trailhead Overview

This trailhead provides access to the Sheriff's Reservoir area of the Flat Top Mountains. Nearby 'attractions' include Sheriff's Reservoir itself, Pyramid Peak, the Little Flat Tops, Mandall Pass, Orno Peak from the north, and Devil's Causeway from the North. There are many places to camp, including the Sheriff's Reservoir campground, a national forest campground, as well as backcountry camping.

Directions to Trailhead

The trailhead at Sheriff’s Reservoir can be reached easily from the town of Oak Creek.

From the town of Oak Creek head SW on County Road 25 (dirt) to the Flat Tops Scenic Byway. Make a left at the first “T” and a right at the second “T”. There are signs. This should put you on County Road 8 heading towards Dunckley Pass. Take a left at the sign for Sheriff’s Reservoir. Travel time from Oak Creek is about 30 minutes. The road to the reservoir from Oak Creek should open by early June each year. There are a few other options to arrive at the trailhead from the west and most detailed maps should be sufficient to get you there.
