In Mudna Dolina

Mudna Dolina valley, which cuts deep into the southern slopes of Obruc mountain, and its fantastic canyon is one of trademarks of whole mountain. On spots canyon is only 1m wide. This is detail from lower section. This 10m high smooth jump is surmounted with help of metal steps and fixed ropes. Without them this would be serious climbing and end of the 'road' for non climbers. Only after heavy rains or sudden snow meltdowns Mudna Dolina is impassable and such spots turn into beautiful waterfalls. Photo: Aleksandar Gospic

Bolting!

Now that's what I call bolting a route!

Re: Bolting!

Klenke, did you mean that in sense there is too much iron? I'm not sure because bolt has few meanings. But in Mudna Dolina canyon I was pleasantly surprised that only toughest spots are secured, those which would be impassable for hikers. In the rest of the canyon, and you spent 2h in it, there is so much scrambling and unsecured spots which makes it really attractive and great fun. Cheers!

Re: Bolting!

It was a facetious comment based on the controversy that has stewed over here in U.S. climbing communities for a couple of years now: the over-bolting of trad routes. The controversy is toward ordinary bolts (the type you clip in to with quick draws), so seeing iron ladders "bolted" into the rock like this picture would be indicative of the bolt-happy climbers out here who take the act too far. That is, it would be the extreme case for their cause (not that I would ever expect them to go so far). In the case of Obruc, the ladder is perfectly acceptable.
