Zoomed into 'Thunder Peak', 'Lightning Peak', and Estes Cone from Beaver Mountain.'Thunder Peak' and 'Lightning Peak' are two unofficially named peaks that reside just north of Estes Cone in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. Like the majority of the peaks in RMNP, no trails reach the summit of these peaks.
The coordinates and elevation shown on this page are for 'Lightning Peak' (the higher of the two peaks). The coordinates of 'Thunder Peak' are 40.3135°N / 105.567433°W. Its elevation is 10,134 ft (3088 m). 'Thunder Peak' lies 0.65 miles to the northeast of 'Lightning Peak'.
'Thunder Peak' and 'Lightning Peak' are unranked on Mountain Jim's Summits of Rocky Mountain National Park List because these peaks do not have official names. 'Lightning Peak' is the 79th highest peak in RMNP according to Gerry Roach's Rocky Mountain National Park Summits List. On that list, 'Lightning Peak' is listed as PT 10,567. 'Lightning Peak' has 427 feet of prominence above the saddle with its parent peak, Estes Cone. Gerry Roach lists 'Thunder Peak' as the 84th highest peak in RMNP, listing that peak as PT 10,134. 'Thunder Peak' has 554 feet of prominence above the saddle with 'Lightning Peak', its parent.
Both summits provide great views of Estes Cone, Mount Meeker, Longs Peak, the peaks of the Continental Divide, the entire Mummy Range, Rams Horn Mountain, Lily Mountain and Lily Lake, and Twin Sisters Peaks.
