Point Bonita and Rodeo Beach at sunset

Tom and I took a drive out to Point Bonita, the furthest point of the Marin Headlands north of San Francisco in the Golden Gate National Recreation area not long before sunset on Labor Day. Stopped for a snack at a new age store and wound up with this seaweed crap that looked like carbon paper. We took the boardwalk out to the lighthouse rock who's knife edge north ridge looks like a smokin' little scramble. We were unable to visit the lighthouse because the tunnel through the rock was closed off.
Then we went out to the cliffs overlooking the rock and Rodeo Beach (pronounced Roe-day-oh) to the north. Finally we drove down to Rodeo Beach for the sunset.

Re: This is gorgeous!

Thanks Eric! A lot of the California coast is dramatic and beautiful around here. Luckily this is only about 20 minutes from where I live. I'm always hiking in the local hills but this makes me want to visit the coastline more.

Re: This is gorgeous!

Lucky you - to have such a coastline only 20 minutes away...! :-)

Re: This is gorgeous!

I have to travel a bit longer to reach the coastline, but until
California sinks into the sea, I have no choice !!!

Re: This is gorgeous!

And if I'm correct you have the Alps nearby, no?
The Sierra is about 4 -5 hours away for me. So far this year I've only been up there twice and the Mt. Shasta area but expect to go a few more times before the snows commence which is usually in late October or November unless it's an early season.
Nevertheless the Bay Area is always a hikers paradise year round.

The grass is always greener Larry. I sure wish I had all those desert peaks and buttes nearby. Ahh! That crisp desert air... time for some Edward Abbey.-:)

"On the first part of the journey,
I was looking at all the life.
There were plants and birds and rocks and things;
There was sand and hills and rings..
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz,
And the sky with no clouds ..."

Nice Photos!

We went hiking at Butano SP on Labor Day and finished up the day at the ocean. I agree with you - the CA coast is pretty dramatic! I am fortunate to live on the coast and your pictures serve as a reminder.

Re: Nice Photos!

Thanks Lisae. I got more response from this album than most of my Sierra albums! Just got to pick the right time and when it's not too foggy.

Re: Nice Photos!

I have to laugh about your comment - picking a time when it is not too foggy; this has been the summer of fog, here on the Central Coast. I have some great videos of fog now . . .
