Rock Creek Butte from the NE (from near the town of Haines on US-30). The valley is the Pine Creek drainage. I tried to get up the road to the reservoir but was blocked by an iffy ford for my Honda. A high-clearance vehicle could have crossed. The crossing (c. 4,900 ft) was probably only about a mile from the end of the road and four miles from the summit but I didn't know that so I turned around. I didn't have a proper map. Looking at things, it seems like a viable route to the peak. Mid-June 2002.
