7/19/02: Watch out for the rattlesnakes! This picture was taken low on Tuscarora Mountain, and I have seen several such snakes in the area. I also once encountered a rattler on the Tuscarora Trail along the top of Tuscarora Mountain's SW ridge.

For some reason, a lot of us out west tend to think of rattlesnakes only being out here. Wrong !! I remember that there were timber rattlers in Missouri when I lived there (as well as copperheads and water moccasins) Good thing those Pennsylvania rattlers don't blend in.

Yes, I have seen a number of rattlers in Pennsylvania. Often they do really blend in; in fact I almost stepped on one once!
