Visegrad castle

The mountain with medieval citadel located on its top above Danube river waters, on its right bank in the famous, picturesque Danube Bend area. The name Visegrád (Vyšehrad) is of Slavic origin meaning "the upper castle". Historically, in the 14th century, the town below the fortified castle was periodically the royal seat of Hungary. In 1335, Charles I of Hungary hosted at Visegrád a two-month congress with the Bohemian king, John of Luxembourg, and the Polish king, Casimir III and the "Visegrád tradition" of political meetings of Central European countries' leaders is being cultivated up to the present times.
