Spent the day hiking and off roading in the area. The peak is pretty cool and has some beautiful views. We met a guy that owns some of the mining claims in the area and it was pretty interesting to get some history from him. It was a really busy weekend for the area.
I get a weird vibe from this whole area. Possibly due to the history associated with the area and the tragic deaths which occurred in town and at the mines. Climb was easy so long as you stick to the main Jeep trail. I could care less for the loud freakin generators on top which ruin my 'wilderness experience', but that was expected when climbing somewhere that has radio towers. Hayden will be another day.
We parked at the park just past town, then hiked up roads and cross country. Came down a different way for a very enjoyable and scenic loop.
Many adits and much mining debris.
East Side-Mining Mountain Date Climbed: Nov 5, 1999
It was very windy with winds causing the radio towers at the summit to absolutely howl and scream. The whole route was a treasure hunt (lots of junk though) of mining garbage from 1860-1950s.
