Watching the Rafters in Yampa Canyon

At least the rafting season is short!

I found this online:

"Yampa River rafting trip is one of the most sought after rafting trips in the United States. This rafting trip rivals the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River. The Yampa River is last major free flowing, un-damed rivers in the United States. Due to the natural flows of this river the rafting season is just a few short weeks in May & June."

Well, it is a short season somewhat compared to the Grand Canyon, the Arkansas, Salmon etc. but boy does your picture show some beautiful reasons to raft there too!

This picture is a good illustration of what rafters look for: beautiful scenery, trees for shade, sandy beaches etc. for camping.

Thank goodness for your sake, it isn't an endless season like some rivers! And I promise to keep off my rafting soapbox!

Actually, I'm glad for your "rafting soapbox."

I have to correct your source: the Yellowstone is also free flowing and undammed. But those are the only two in the Lower 48.

The Green River also flows through Dinosaur. Because of the upstream Flaming Gorge Dam, I bet that it has a longer season. I know it has similar scenery.

Check it out some time! Bring your belayer.

Re: At least the rafting season is short!

Thanks for the information Arthur. Those brochures often exaggerate at the expense of accuracy. And I have read about the Green and its trips. Maybe I will get out there sometime (with my belayer :)
