I woke up very early that morning to summit Gypsy Peak, then headed to Colville to visit with some old friends. When I arrived in the city, I noticed it was only 11:00 AM and the weather forecast was good. I asked them if they would mind meeting for dinner rather than lunch, to allow me time to hike up Abercrombie that day rather then that evening or the following morning. That was fine with them. Thank goodness for the slightly revised plan, as the weather took a nasty turn that afternoon and evening after I arrived back at the truck from the hike. Also, my legs both got injured near the summit, and it was not fun hobbling 3.2 miles down the mountain, solo, with no other people nearby, with a storm approaching... but I did it. My legs appreciated my friends' offer to stay in a nice cozy guestroom bed that evening rather than a cramped truck. The views from the summit are spectacular and highly recommended, and the trail is excellent! The road is NASTY in places; bring a high-clearance vehicle! This was my 28th WA CoHP.
