Matterhorn takes us down

After climbing Uncompahgre we returned to Lake City to carb-load for our next project: Wetterhorn and the gnarly-looking ridge to Matterhorn. The hike up Wetterhorn was uneventful, and the class-3 section to top out was very fun. We didn't waste much time on the crowded summit and started on the traverse. The rock was deceptively loose and despite caution my partner took a 25-foot fall on the north side, forcing us to abort nearly halfway across. Thankfully she wasn't badly injured. This put an end to our adventure in the San Juans and our 6th summit in 7 days, a list spanning three ranges and the following peaks: Kit Carson, Challenger, Maroon, N. Maroon, Uncompahgre and Wetterhorn.
