What is Polarisation?

What is polarisation? Light waves swinging in one pane, like in picture a) are polarised. But generally all light occurring in nature is a mixture of all kinds of waves, swinging in all directions and panes like seen in picture b)

What software do you use to make charts like this? Great article overall! How about publishing a book or 5?

Actually I don't know - I googled and I found a page somewhere where I could download a file 3dg.zip . But I already uninstallled it from my computer :o)
