Yong Englishman William Penhall was killed at the age 24 together with the Oberland guide Andreas Maurer while ascending the Wetterhorn. On 3 August 1882 they left Grindelwald despite a lot of snow had fallen the previous days. They were found dead a few days later in an avalanche high on the mountain.
