Windy Creek

Windy Creek

Photo taken near Windy Creek beneath the slopes of Apikuni Mountain (right foreground). Allen Mountain is the large massif that appears tallest in the background (near center). The smaller peak to the left, rising above the thick forest below, is Wynn Mountain (8,404 feet). A ridge from Wynn runs back and to the right behind Allen (9,376 feet). Although they appear rather small in this photo. the bump on the left is Cracker Peak (9,833 feet), with Mount Siyeh (10,014 feet), Glacier's fifth highest peak, on the right. August 28, 2013

You Went Up There?

This is one of my favorite areas in the park. I had one of my first solo off trail experiences up there in 2007. It's an enchanted place.

Re: You Went Up There?

We sure did! It was awesome up there. I recall you speaking fondly of this area... didn't you hike up to a high point on Apikuni once? Becky and I have actually hiked around the talus fields south and east of Apikuni Mountain on two occasions. The sheer cliffs and massive boulders on the south face are one of my favorite features in all of Glacier.

Re: You Went Up There?

I descended into the Windy Creek drainage from Apikuni in 2007 & found a bighorn skull w/horns. Also went back with Ely, Adrienne & Tony Giuliani in 2011. There are seasonal/snowmelt waterfalls up at the head of the cirque. Such a peaceful spot.
