TragedyThe forest in the basin between Islip and the Hawkins Ridge used to be the finest example of a south-facing exposure of timber anywhere in the San Gabriels. The fires of the recent past have caused such devastation that it will probably take 100 years for the forest to recover--if recovery is indeed possible--due to the poor quality of the top-soil.
